# Sell What You Ship: Catch Weight for NetSuite

Lately I've been having lots of conversations with customers and partners about the benefits of WAERlinx. There are loads, of course, but one that always turns heads, especially with anyone in Food & Beverage, is our support for [**catch weight**](https://waersystems.com/netsuite-catch-weight-management-waerlinx).

If you haven't come across the term, **catch weight,** it is where you sell by a unit quantity but invoice by the actual weight. A customer orders 10 cases of salmon, but no two cases weigh exactly the same, so the invoice needs to reflect what was really shipped. Get it wrong and you're either giving product away or overcharging your customers.
Not every case weighs the same, and WAERlinx accounts for that. With catch weight, you can record the actual weight at receipt or during picking, depending on what suits your operation. That weight then flows through to NetSuite on fulfilment, ready for accurate invoicing. Here's how it works.
### Accurate weights from the loading dock
If you choose to capture catch weight at receiving, your team records the actual weight of each arriving pallet in WAERlinx and links it to the receipt.
That gives you an accurate starting point for inventory, rather than relying on the nominal weight on the purchase order. You can also spot any difference between the weight the supplier invoiced and what actually arrived, right from day one.
### Weights that change while stock sits on the shelf
The weight you receive isn't always the weight you ship. Cured meats dry out, produce loses moisture, and stock can spoil or shrink while it's stored.
WAERlinx lets you track and adjust catch weights throughout an item's time in the warehouse. Your inventory can then reflect what's on the shelf today, rather than what arrived weeks ago.
Every adjustment leaves an audit trail showing who changed the weight, when, and by how much. That gives you a clear record to refer to during food safety reviews or customer disputes, and helps you understand how shrinkage affects your margins.
### Capturing weight at the pick face
You can also choose to capture catch weight during picking. This is particularly useful for high-value, variable-weight products such as seafood and meat, where orders are often picked by the carton.
Recording each carton's actual weight as it's picked means the customer can be invoiced for what they receive. With premium products, even small differences between cartons can make a noticeable difference to your margins.
WAERlinx can read catch weight directly from GS1 barcodes to keep the process moving. Pickers simply scan the carton label, and the weight is captured automatically, with no manual keying.
### Straight into NetSuite
WAERlinx is built for NetSuite, so the weights captured in the warehouse flow straight through to the fulfilment record. That connects what your team ships with the weight used for invoicing.
WAERlinx records catch weight at two levels:
- **Individual carton**: the actual weight of each carton picked, for full traceability.
- **Order line fulfilment**: the total weight for the line, ready for accurate invoicing.
Your finance team invoices using the actual weight shipped, without your warehouse team having to enter the same weight twice.

With WAERlinx, catch weight fits the way you work. Capture it at receipt to track weight changes during storage, or during picking if you only need the weight when an order ships. Whichever you choose, the weight flows through to NetSuite on fulfilment, with an audit trail for every adjustment.
